An Idea Born of Puzzling

Following our success with running our own puzzle hunt over the summer of 2020, I recruited a handful of writers to work on a startup I cofounded with an old friend. We used our experience writing highly collaborative puzzle activities to develop a virtual streamlined escape room experience.

room design

We ran puzzle rooms and exciting activities for all types of events! Our rooms lasted around 90 minutes and could be easily tailored to custom specifications. We encouraged collaboration with friends and competition with other peers as they slowly worked to unravel the mysteries that lay in each and every room!

We ended up creating a total of six concept rooms, two of which became our flagship offers. A team of over 7 people collaborated to make the rooms possible, and I owe them greatly for all their hard work.

Weaping Ghost

Entrepreneurial Institute Startup Sprint

In January of 2021, Rabble Rooms was selected to be one of 11 teams out of almost 200 to compete in the Startup Sprint run by the Entrepreneurial Institute at NYU. Our team was awarded over $6000 of funding, in addition to full access to the maker spaces provided by the E-Lab at the Institute. Over the two week intensive program, I conducted almost 60 interviews and met with mentors who have continued to guide me on my startup journey. It was through this program that I began to hone many of the skills necessary to be a successful entrepreneur.

Primetime Features

We were featured in a number of publications, including the Amherst Student newspaper and were chosen as the NYU Entrepreneurial Institute’s Startup of the Week.

Gaining Traction

As we began marketing, we ran events for multiple colleges and partnered with large college and university clubs. We hosted our largest event for the CMU Math Club which had over 120 members in attendance and ran for almost three hours.

Grinspoon entrepreneurship award

In April of 2020, I was awarded the Grinspoon Entrepreneurship Award by the Grinspoon Foundation and selected as one of the most promising startups of the year. Along with the award, I received prominent placement within the Grinspoon organization and a stipend of $600. Early in 2020, I placed as a semifinalist in the Grinspoon Pitch Competition for which I was awarded a prize of $50.
